The UK is brimming with fascinating places to take your caravan or motorhome. In fact, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Britain is home to some of the best caravan sites in the entire world.

If you’re wondering where to take yourself off to on your next trip, you can’t go wrong with one of these picks. Here are three of our favourites that you might not have considered.

1. Strathmore Caravan Park

With just 15 pitches, most of which are on grass, Strathmore Caravan Park in the Scottish borders is the antithesis of the Butlins-like approach to caravanning that causes so many of us to shudder.

There are no beers being sold for a pound or karaoke going on until the early hours of the morning. Instead, you’ll find eco toilets, the Chatterbox Folly, which comes complete with a warm fire and complimentary marshmallows and the sense of peace that comes from reconnecting with nature.

The location of the Park makes for an incredible adventure. Just a few minutes away from the England and Scotland border, there’s an almost limitless list of things to do. Easy access to the exciting borders and the ever-popular Northumberland, you’ll be left wondering why you’ve never seen these places of beauty before.

The local area is the habitat of many rare birds and is listed by United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as a World Heritage Site. With things to do and see aplenty, this really is one of the best caravan sites in the whole of the UK.

2. Mains Farm Caravan Site

Mains Farm is a 30-pitch site located in the beautiful wilds of Eden Valley in Cumbria.

With its stunning views, it’s more than tempting to just sit back, relax and watch the world go by. If you fancy getting a bit more hands-on, particularly with a spot of salmon or trout fishing, the site has its own stretch of river where novices and experts alike can try their hands at angling.

If you’ve always thought of yourself as the next Rory McIlroy, Penrith Golf Club offers 18-holes against the majestic backdrop of the Lake District.

Step a little further of camp and you’ll find even more to keep the entire family entertained. Rheged offers a wide range of activities and Acorn Bank is home to incredible herbs and fruits. Add to that Hadrian’s Wall, Carlisle Castle, Lowther Castle and Dalemain Historic House are all less than 20 miles from site and you’d be hard pressed not to enjoy yourself, really.

3. Faerie-thyme

Faerie-thyme is an adults-only camping and caravanning site in Carmarthenshire. It offers secluded pitches and some of these even come with their very own fire pits. If you’re on the lookout for a romantic spot for an anniversary, birthday or just some getaway time, you may very well have just found it.

The site’s appeal and ethos can be summed up magnificently by the fact the owners run an ‘honesty shop’. In there, you won’t find any overly regulated, multi-site corporation nonsense. Simply firewood and provisions to make your stay easier without asking you to spend every penny you have.

The quirky woodland hideaway basking in the glory of calming and relaxing environment make this the perfect spot to forget about your troubles, truly making it one of the best caravan sites for couples. Just make sure that you can drag yourself away when it’s time to go home!
