Here are three of the best caravan sites in the UK:

1. Strathmore Caravan Park

With just 15 pitches, most of which are on grass, Strathmore Caravan Park in the Scottish borders is the antithesis of the Butlins-like approach to caravanning that causes so many of us to shudder.

So you won’t find beers being sold for a pound, or karaoke going on until the early hours; instead you’ll find Eco toilets, the Chatterbox Folly (complete with fire and complimentary marshmallows) and the sense of peace that only comes from reconnecting with nature.

2. Mains Farm Caravan Site

Mains Farm is a 12-pitch site located in the beautiful wilds of the Eden Valley in Cumbria.

With its stunning views you’ll be tempted to just sit and watch the world go by, but if you fancy a spot of salmon or trout fishing, they have their own stretch of river from which anyone, from expert to novice, can try their hand.

Mains Farm is also a 10-minute drive away from an 18-hole golf course and is open all year round.

3. Faerie-thyme

Faerie-thyme is an adults-only camping and caravanning site in Carmarthenshire, offering secluded pitches, some of which are complete with their own fire pits.

The ethos of Faerie-thyme can best be summed up by the fact that the owners run an ‘honesty shop’ that sells firewood and provisions; this is not an overly regulated multi-site corporation!

If you are looking for a quirky woodland hideaway, then this might just be the place for you.
